Question:
How do I stop the road?
hiker2.gif (4196 bytes)
Several weeks ago, I backpacked along the Fundy Footpath from Big Salmon River into the National Park. It was, as you know, a spectacular hike with tonnes of birds, wild rivers and beautiful views. After the hike, I learned that a roadway has been proposed for this same route! I can't imagine doing the hike again with motorhomes and the like roaring by alongside.
I would like to ask what I can do to stop the road. I am working in PEI for the summer and am a grad student at the University of Guelph in Rural Planning and Development. Back home in Hamilton, Ontario, I have been involved for years with the Hamilton Naturalists' Club and have built up a fair amount of expewrience opposing developments of all kinds including a current proposed five land road down one of your last reamining natural valley systems in the east end of the city. We have had great success pushing the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act to the fullest and are just gwetting ready to begin a full panel hearing. Our trigger was the Fisheries Act which certainly applies in this case.

Please let me know what I can do to help!

Cheers,
Brian M.
