Question:
Garbages' effect on the
environment

rrr2.jpg (2197 bytes)

-  I am researching background information on garbages' effect on the
environment and the methods we can use to limit these affects.
This information is being gathered for the purpose of a children's educational program.

I am looking for recent information, research reports and statistics
on the 3 R's, packaging and consumerism in your province. Of specific
interest to me are the latest programs you encourage in your area
to reduce excess waste.
I am trying to establish key efforts being taken across Canada by industries, organizations and individuals to lessen the impacts of consumerism and consumption on the environment.

I appreciate your efforts of encouraging school children to practice the 3 r's. I have all the faith in children to do what is right for their future.

Saint John and surrounding areas are crippled at this time concerning
recycling due to it's governments allowing the Waste Commission's
mismanagement of money, inability, or no desire to protect our environment. (We certainly have informed them of the right things to do, they have chosen the wrong.)
Be it any of those reasons, an effective pilot project of recycling has been stopped by the Fundy Regional Solid Waste Commission. (They say they'll start again sometime!) Other than their plan, there is the odd recyclable business that takes refundable bottles, and a few depots that take glass etc. These areas certainly do not take advantage of the desire previously shown by the residents to do what is right with the 3 r's.
Of course, for the Commission to build a dump or landfill in a water
recharge area is the first mistake, totally ignoring our geologists and
hydrogeologists advise. We are sitting only 2 km. downgradient from the Crane Mountain dump ( situated in one of the most densley populated water source areas of New Brunswick) with our hands tied, because all levels of our Canadian government will not adhere to our pleas to protect Mother Nature and her gifts.

Sorry to have to write doom and gloom, but that's our situation here.
Please write again.
